hotel booking app

About the project

This is an app where you can book hotels that will give you a ‘retreat-like’ break. Listings include a range of places – from self-catering to hotels – that offer retreat services, including yoga, pilates, surfing, dietary programmes, massage and holistic therapies. Selections of what will be important to make your perfect retreat can be made upfront and then listings of those places will presented.

The Challenge

We need to assess what entices potential customers to book on various hotel booking apps. What are those things that make them uninstall an app in a second, never to be downloaded and tried again? When somebody is booking to go away, specifically on a retreat, they have certain needs. We need to find what those needs are and ensure we meet them within the first few minutes of using the Retreat Breaks app.

The Realisation

Through user testing, a few realisations were made:

  • ‘Holiday-feel’ pictures were very important and enticing
  • Users want to be able to explore an app freely before needing to sign up at the start
  • People want reassurances about cancellations and refund policies upfront

The Solution

A Customer Journey Map and User Flow highlighted our average user’s behaviours, pain-points and preferences throughout the flow of booking accommodation for their ideal holiday. These findings through this analysis have been incorporated into the Interaction Design sketches and are being transformed into the Prototype and Wireframes, to be user-tested again before development.
